"Erin Brokovich" 「エリン＝ブロコビッチ」- ****1/2

この映画も半年以上前に観たので、正直細かい部分は全然覚えていません(^_^;)。で も、とにかく全然期待しないで観に行ったので、ただひたすらその出来の良さに驚い てしまいました。勿論監督は「アウト・オブ・サイト」以来乗っているスティーブン ＝ソダーバーグだし、批評家達の評も良かったし、ある程度の期待はしていましたが、 マスコミではジュリア＝ロバーツの胸あきコスチュームの話ばかりしてましたから ね(^_^;)。

とにかくよく覚えているのは、その話のテンポ。前半エリンが弁護士事務所に滑り込 むまでのエピソードは良かった。後半はちょっとおセンチ入っちゃってスロー気味に なってしまったけれど、ラストのラストもよかったし。
実はこのお話、１年前に公開されていた「Civil Action」という映画とプロットが殆 ど同じ（記憶の中で２つの映画のシーンがごっちゃになってしまう程(^_^;)だったので、 「鳴呼、また”デッドマン・ウォーキング”＆”ラストダンス”みたいなパターン （＝同じ話をヒーローからヒロインに変えてやる）なのね」、と思っていたのですが、 今回の場合は「エリン＝ブロコビッチ」の方がお先の「Civil Action」より何枚も上手でした。

エリン役でアカデミー賞有力視のジュリア＝ロバーツは、この役に出会えて本当にラッ キーだったと思う反面、やっぱり彼女以外でこの役できる人いなかったんじゃないか と思うくらい。だってコレだけアホで能天気であけすけな女性をチャーミングに演じ られる人って他にいないと思うし。例えばサンドラ＝ブロックがこの役やった時のこと、 想像してみて下さい（あまりいい例だとは思わないですけど ^_^;）。
他の俳優さん達も皆よかったけど、やっぱり心に残るのはアルバート＝フィニー （「オーファンズ」映画版で、ハロルドの役をやった人です）。エリンに対してちゃ んと厳しい面も持っている反面、最後には絶対頼りに出来るような…。ジュリア＝ロ バーツとアルバート＝フィニーのコンビがあんなに「お似合い」だとは、ちょっと意 外でした。

この作品、同じソダーバーグ監督の「Traffic」に足を引っ張られない限り、オスカーの可能性はかなり高いと思います。またこれでジュリア＝ロバーツが初のオスカーを獲得する可能性も十分にあり。普段はアンチ・JRの私も、この作品での受賞なら、何の文句もありませんです。

I also saw this film about a half year ago. Actually I had no expectation for this film despite of the fact that it was directed by Soderburg, because I was sick of that the mass-media was talking about Julia's wonder-bra-costumes all the time.

I remember well about the speedy tempo of the beginning, which is until Erin got a job at the law office. Although the second half became a bit slow, I really liked how it ends.
In fact, I still get confused some scenes from "Erin..." with its’ from "Civil Action", since both have almost identical plots. (Before I saw "Erin..." I thought it was the same pattern like "Dead Man Walking" followed "Last Dance", which have just switched the hero to a heroine). But, even I, as a fan of Steven Zaillan (director of "Civil Action"), have to say "Erin..." was much better than CV.

There is no doubt that Julia Roberts was so lucky to get this role. And, on the other hand, imagine if Sandra Block got this role for Erin??? You see how perfect she was for that role.
BTW, I was pretty amazed that the couple, Julia R & Albert Finny matched so well.

Anyway, This film definitely has a chance to get an Oscar, unless "Traffic" takes too many votes for Soderburg's total poll. And this could bring Julia her first Oscar, on which I have no complain.

"Gladiator" 「グラディエーター」- ***1/2

劇場で観たのが5月か６月だったので、かなり記憶も薄いのですが（だからアカデミー 候補の作品は１２月末ぎりぎりに公開されるものが多いのです(^_^;) 、一番の印象 はけっこうがっかりして映画館を後にしたこと。 これは、監督：リドリー＝スコット、 主演： ラッセル＝クロウということで、期待が大きすぎたみたいです(^_^;)。

まず最初の30分（くらい？）は、スピルバーグが「プライベート・ライアン」でやっ ていた最初の30分を古代版でやろうとしていたんじゃないかと思う程、何か作り方が 似ていた様な気がしました。 （もちろんCG使いまくり）で、古代ローマのコロセウム や街並みもCGで一所懸命再現しようとしているのですが、それが凄くちゃちく見え てしまって がっかり。そして何よりも脚本がダメ。キャラクターは類型的だし、お 話の波もないし、ただ物語が１から10に進むだけ。 これが一番の敗因だったかも、 私にとっては。

ラッセル＝クロウはいつもの通りうまい演技をしていたものの、私には何かがもの足りな かった。 パンチというかパッションというか、ハングリー精神というか…。 その点 それまでどちらかと言えば毛嫌いしていたホアキン＝フェニックスが光ってみえたの で、R＝クロウが尚さら霞んで見えてしまった悲しい結末。 他のキャラクターは皆キ レイだったしかっこよかったけど、半年たってすっかり忘れてしまいました(^_^;)。

アカデミー賞は、技術的な総合点も加味されて選ばれるので、私的にはいま一だった この作品もアカデミーではかなりの線（作品賞を取ってもおかしくない）まで行くと 思います。まぁ、ドリームワークスですしね(^_^;)。でも、これがアカデミー作品賞を取っ たら、私「やっぱり今年は不作の年だった」と言わなければならないです〜(T_T)。

Because I saw this film either in May or June, it's hard for me to recall the details of it. I still remember how much I was disappointed at this film, though. You know, directed by Ridley Scott and the lead was Russell Crowe. Who can help not to expect onto this film as a "perfect film"???

The first 30 min reminded me the first 30 min of "Saving Private Ryan". I wonder if he was trying to make an ancient Roman version of the "SPR". And the cheapy Colosseum and the city of Rome by CG graphics made me so sad... But most of all, the worst thing of this film was the screenplay. Typecasted characters and flat story, which just goes from 1 to 10. Cannot believe Ridley Scott took this and shot it as it is.

Of course, Russell Crowe was good as always, but I didn't see any passion in him as a hero. On the contrary, Joaquin Phoenix, who I used to dislike looked much better than Russell Crowe ironically. About other character... I guess they were all OK, but I cannot remember any memorable moments now...(^_^;)

Because people who vote for Oscar consider the total prospect of film including technical skills, there is no surprise even if this film gets the best picture. However, if it happens, I have to say the year 2000 was one of the worst years of all time!
