For the 2nd topic of this genre "Films", let me inrtoduce a film, which made me a film cult. I'm actually not even a cult among my friends who are "super" film cults, though (^_^;)
実は私、大学に入るまで「映画を全く観ない人」でした。ＴＶの”○曜映画劇場”なんてのも、全く観なかったクチでしたから（当時ビデオも持っていなかったし）、大学１年生になるまで、生まれてから私が観た映画、アニメ映画なんかを入れてもおそらく１０本かそこらだったと思います。
それが、大学に入って「ある映画」を観てからというもの、私の人生は180度（？）変わってしまいました。○年前までは、自分が大学院で映画の勉強をするなんて夢にも思っていませんでしたから。（ちなみに私の大学での専攻は政治学でした）
To tell the truth, because I was the person, who had hardly seen films even on TV (I didn't have a VCR either), the total of the films, which I saw until I got into college were about 10.
However, after I saw "A film", my life had been turned around almost 180 degrees. I'd never dreamt about going to a graduate school to study film. (I belonged to a department of education, major in political science for my bachelor degree)
私の人生を変えたその映画とは、フィリップ・カウフマン監督「存在の耐えらえない軽さ」です。私にとっては、これが初めての「映画らしい映画」だったのです。公開当時の広告は、もっぱらポルノまがいの宣伝ばかりしていました。（実際エッチシーンの目白押しです^^；）それが、友達に「騙されたと思って観に行ってみなよ。凄く良かったから」と薦められ、けっこうイヤイヤ観に行ったのです。そうしたら...もう私の方がハマってしまいました。劇場だけでも、二流館上映を入れれば10回は観に行ったと思います。ビデオはもちろん発売と同時に購入。最初の１時間半は殆どセリフも暗記してしまったくらいです（^^；）
The film, which changed my life, is "The Unbearable Lightness of Being", was the 1st film for me like "A FILM". The Ad for the film in Japan was almost saying it's "a porn film" (actually there're tons of sex scenes in this film^^;). Because one of my friends strongly recommended me to see it, I went to see it anyway, even though I didn't really want to. Then... I got sucked into this film so badly and went to theaters around 10 times. And, of course, I bought the VHS as soon as it came out. I've even memorized almost all lines for the first 1 hour and half (^_^;)
ただし！！！この映画、誰にとっても素晴らしい映画とはお世辞にも言えません。悪口から先に言ってしまいましょう。まず第一に長い！！！殆ど３時間近くあります。友達に観せると、大抵最後までもちません。特に２時間を過ぎた辺りが、かなりたるみます。大長編の原作付きなので、脚本家にとっては脚色も非常に難しい作品なのですが、悪い出来は悪い出来。
実は、私の映画科での卒論を担当した教授が”偶然にも”この映画の脚本家と知り合いで、後に教授の研究室で彼とご対面するという夢の様な出来事もあったのですが、教授は彼の前で、この映画の脚本についてけちょんけちょんにけなしていました。私も脚本の構成については確かに弁護の仕様もなく、横で頷くしかなかったのですが...（^_^；）
BUT! I cannot say this film is great for everyone. Let me start telling you bad things about this film. First of all, it's too long!!! It's almost 3 hours. They usually fall in asleep when I show this my friends. Especially, the part after 2 hours is a kind of dull. It's actually hard for a scriptwriter to adapt a long length book, though, bad is bad.
I actually had an unbelievable moment to see the writer of this film later at my thesis superviser's office, since she is "coincidentally" a friend of him. However, she was blaming about the screenplay right in front of him. I, unfortunatelly, couldn't really deffence him, because it was actually not good... (^_^;)
おっと、まだこの映画の内容について書いていませんでしたね。これは1960年代後半、プラハで起こったソ連共産党に反発した「プラハの春」から、それを打ち壊すソ連軍介入とその後までを書いた大河ドラマ。ミラン・クンデラの書いた原作だと、話は主人公の息子の世代にまで及びます。実はこのお話、私は密かに「チェコ版・源氏物語」だと思っています。まるで光源氏のようなプレィボーイ・トマッシュを軸に、その妻テレーザ、永年の愛人サビーナが織り成す愛と嫉妬と政治の嵐。
アメリカ制作の映画でありながら、トマッシュ役にイギリス人のダニエル・ディ・ルイス、テレーザ役にフランス人のジュリエット・ビノッシュ、サビーナ役にスゥェーデン人のレナ・オリンと非常に国際色豊かな作品でもあります。ちなみにこの映画が撮影されたのは1990年の東欧革命の前、本国のチェコでは撮影許可が降りず、フランスの片田舎での撮影でした。
Oops, I haven't told you about the story yet. This is about the people in Prague from "The Prague Spring" through the genocide by the USSR army to the days after. I think this story especially the original novel written by Milan Kundera, which include the lead's son's story, is like a "Tale of Genji in Czech". The lead/protagonist, Tomash, who is a super playboy like Genji, makes a triangle of love, jealousy, and politics with his wife, Tereza, and his lover Sabina.
It was an American production film, but they got an international casting; an English actor, Daniel Day-Lewis for Tomash, a French actoress, Juliette Binoche, and a Swidish actoress, Lena Olin. And because they couldn't get the permission to shoot in Prague (it was before the Eastern Europe relvolution), they mostly shot the film at a countryside in French.
私がとにかくヤラレてしまったのは、テレーザとサビーナの奇妙な関係です。同じ男性を愛した者同志が向かい合う時の”研ぎ澄まされた雰囲気”っていうんでしょうか？「この監督、どうしてこんなに女性を描くことが出来るの？？？」と不思議になってしまうくらいです。（実際私はそういう修羅場に遭遇したことはないのですけれど...^^；）このフィリップ・カウフマン監督、この一作後の「ヘンリー＆ジューン」でも似たような微妙な女性関係を描いていますが（やはり同じ男性を愛する２人の女性という設定）、「ライジング・サン」で見事に大ゴケしてしまいました。
でも今年、彼には７年ぶりの新作"Quills"が控えています！フランスの悪名高きマルキーズ・サドのお話っていうんですから、嗚呼また彼のお得意部門復活？？？って感じでちょっぴり期待しています。
Especially, what knocked me out was the relationship between Tereza and Sabina. How can I say..., it's like a "sharpened atmosphere"? I always wonder why/how this director, Philip Kaufman can depict women so well?? He did a great job again in his next film, "Henry and June", which is also about two women who love a same man. However, he totally failed in the following film, "Rising Sun".
After 7 years from his last film, his latest film, "Quills" about Marquis Sade, will finally come out until the end of this year! I think this is the genre he is good at again, so I hope it'll be another great film!
と、いうわけでこの作品。私の人生を大きく変えてしまった記念碑的作品ではありますが、実は私の選ぶ”好きな映画ベスト３”の第３位です。第１位と第２位については、また今度...。
Anyway, it was about the film, which made my life changed. However, this is actually my 3rd favorite film of all time. I'll write about the 1st one and the 2nd one for the next time...
